Costa Smeralda is the name which was given , in 1962 , by the founding members of the Consorzio Costa Smeralda to the area of the land owned by them in the north-eastern extremity of Sardinia. The name, which was inspired by the striking colour of the surrounding sea, refers, therefore, exclusively to the particular area comprising Consorzio Costa Smeralda land.
The Consorzio Costa Smeralda is an association whose founders set themselves the task of protecting and planning, with care and taste, this previously untouched part of Sardinia.
Those who acquire a villa, an apartment or a land in the area of the Consorzio automatically become members of the Consorzio Costa Smeralda and are thereby obliged to conform to the Statute and Building Regulations laid down by the Consorzio Board and the Architectural Committee. The Consorzio Costa Smeralda remains a non profit organization devoted to the protection of the the area and the supervision of such important service companies as the Environmental Protection Service , the Water Supply and Medical Service.
